Shell, Europe, 19th century

Height x width x depth: 35 x 19 x 6 cm. Weight: 2450 g
Haliotis Midae, originating from South Africa, mounted on a brass base. At the base there is a shell from which a finely modelled octopus rises, topped by a dolphin ridden by a winged cherub. The dolphin's elegantly arched tail acts as a support for the shell, harmoniously integrating the figurative and natural elements. The ensemble combines the natural beauty of the shell with the sculptural richness of the metal, creating a dynamic and decorative effect typical of the European ornamental tradition. A representative example of collectibles and cabinets of curiosities.
