Mouthpiece in nielloed silver and amber, Northern Europe, late 19th century
Height x diameter: 11.5 x 2.4 cm. Weight: 58 g
characterised by a finely engraved and nielloed silver body with a figurative register depicting stylised animals and plant motifs.
On the front is a central cartouche bearing the inscription “SAMI” and the date “1323”, a clear reference to the Treaty of Nöteborg, also known as the Treaty of Oreshek and the Peace of Pähkinäsaari, signed in Oreshek on 12 August 1323. This treaty regulated the borders between the Kingdom of Sweden and the Republic of Novgorod.
Accomplished by an original case covered in red velvet.
