Vase in ivory and red coral, Italy, 17th – 18th centuries
Height x diameter: 21 x 12 cm
with a branch of Mediterranean red coral (Corallium Rubrum) inside. The vase has a finely turned globular body with a smooth surface, resting on a base with several circular tiers that ensure stability. The top is closed by a screw-on lid, also in ivory, which allows the large coral branch to be fixed and supported. The latter opens out like a fan in natural branches.
