Walking stick, England, 20th century

Height x width x depth: 94.5 x 5.2 x 4.5 cm
with metal handle. Embossed on the knob is the coat of arms ‘The Royal Arms’, surmounted by a crown, probably either of King Edward VII (1901-1910) or King George V (1910-1936). Below the coat of arms is a ribbon with the motto ‘Dieu et mon droit’ (‘God and my right’). The staff opens, revealing a compass inside. The lower part, also made of metal, has another coat of arms depicting three crowned owls framing a shield, with the inscription ‘Pro Rege et Lege’ (For the King and the Law), may refer to the Leeds family (Dukes of Leeds) and the city of Leeds.
