Carved and gilded mirror, Sicily, mid-18th century
Height x width x depth: 72 x 46 x 12 cm
gilded, with figurative wooden inlays. The cornice is dominated by a large radial shell valve beneath which horses are galloping. The structure is adorned with figures of cherubs and female allegories, whose skin is rendered in a light finish, creating a striking visual contrast with the burnished gold of the acanthus scrolls.
