Marble bust, 18th century
Height x width x depth: 75 x 28 x 23 cm
Characterized by athletic, well-defined musculature reminiscent of classical heroic models, the sculpture features a slight contrapposto, with the weight distributed asymmetrically to lend realism and dynamism to the body. The sculpture is an example of ancient-inspired art: the marble surface features a finish that simulates the erosion of time, with small scratches and a warm hue, mimicking the archaeological discoveries of the Grand Tour. It rests on a rectangular travertine base.
