Captured in a moment of tender devotion to the Baby Jesus, the figure is characterized by an extremely delicate face. The rendering of the veil, which appears light and enveloping, and the way the Virgin’s bare foot rests on the base lend a human realism to this sacred subject. The pronounced verticality and the flowing drapery evoke the aesthetic of Symbolism and early Art Nouveau.
