Wealth-based marriage
Engraving, 250 × 197 mm. One of a series of three depicting different matrimonial circumstances. The original design was made by Goltzius and engraved by Jan Saenredam around 1595. The images were very popular between the late 16th and 19th centuries and were often copied by contemporaries of Goltzius and Saenredam. Cf. Hollstein 108.
Fine, strong impression on thin laid paper with watermark. Proof with small preserved margins. Some losses and tears along the margins, creases, a small hole near the groom’s collar, and a few brown stains, but overall in fair condition.
