The Triumph

Engraving, 340 × 492 mm. Bartsch XIV.173.213; Delaborde 171.

This is a copy of Raimondi’s print, recorded by Bartsch and often confused with the original. The copy was later reworked by an anonymous artist. The reworked impressions can be identified by the holes along the four edges of the plate: seven at the top, six at the bottom, three on the left, and two on the right. These holes suggest that the plate was gilded and nailed to a piece of furniture.

Impression on laid paper with watermark (scales within a shield surmounted by a star). Sheet trimmed to the platemark. Traces of adhesive tape along the upper edge on the verso and other paper residues. A trace of a central vertical fold. On the verso, ancient hand written inscriptions in brown ink.
