Italian solid silver compost bowl, Late 19th to early 20th century
Height x base: 22 x 13 cm. Total weight: 1,440 g
This piece is an elegant silver jar (or sugar bowl/serving bowl with lid), typical of Italian craftsmanship from the late 19th to early 20th century, featuring decorative elements in an eclectic style.
It features a structure composed of multiple materials: a lower bowl in cut glass, hemispherical in shape, decorated with deep vertical grooves that create a refined play of light.
Silver mount: the upper rim is finely worked with leaf or scroll motifs, enriched by 12 side knobs.
The silver lid, heavily embossed with a simple yet elegant design, is embellished with a figurative swan-shaped handle—a motif frequently found in Art Nouveau or late eclectic styles. The central shaft, cast with plant motifs and scrolls, connects the bowl to the base, which is made of pink marble and silver with curved, sculpted feet. The lot is completed by 12 teaspoons.
