Archaic Ge dagger-blade in nephrite jade. China, Qing dynasty (1644-1912), late 18th-19th century.

mm 83 x 21.50x 4
The Chinese jade dagger (Ge) is in the style of the Shang Dynasty (1600โ€“1046 BC). These blades were intended for ceremonial or symbolic use rather than as weapons, and are often found in ancient tombs.
The object is made of nephrite jade, with a pointed blade with sharp, blunt edges and a circular opening, likely for suspension. The Ge's shape derives from the earliest metal dagger-axes of the Shang Dynasty and dates back to the Neolithic period.
