Euterpe. Black patinated bronze, 19th century.

Overall 27.5 x 11 x 7 cm - Contemporary base in green marble
This bronze statuette depicts Euterpe, muse of music and poetry, one of the nine Greek muses.

Sisters of Zeus, each inspired men in the artistic and scientific fields.

Always drawn from archaeological motifs, it follows the interest in collecting small bronzes inspired by classical antiquity.

Euterpe holds the aulos, an ancient musical instrument, a forerunner of the flute.
