Modesty. From an archaeological model. Biscuit, 19th century. Crowned N brand.

28 x 8.5 x 7.5 cm - Slight defect on the base
This bisque represents a classical marble sculpture called Modesty.

Coming from a private collection, it became part of the Pio Clementino Museum, Rome, at the end of the 18th century.

It was replicated by Gasparo Bruschi, again in bisque, for the Ginori factory, again in the 18th century.

The crowned N mark refers to 19th-century Neapolitan production, sometimes to the Ginori factory after around 1830, when the factory began using the Neapolitan mark.

A typical example of the Grand Tour's love for the reproduction of archaeological statues and for the color white.
