Rape of the Sabine Women. After Giambologna. Neoclassical period. 18th-19th century. Black patinated bronze.
67 x 27 x 24 cm
The Rape of the Sabine Women is one of Giambologna's best-known and most replicated sculptures.
The monumental marble sculpture is visible under the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, known for its spiraling intertwining of three nude figures, two male, one female.
The bronze presented here is a beautiful replica of the original model and has very respectable dimensions.
The quality of the model, the type of workmanship and the covering black patina indicate that it is a casting probably made in Florence between the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the next.
The notable elements are the treatment of the faces and hair, typically neoclassical, the nails still cut square, as in the bronzes made by the Florentine Renaissance workshops, the harmonious development of the powerful muscles and, finally, the complete nudity of the figures.
Ideal sculpture for those who want to combine quality, period and decoration.
In the purest ideal Grand Tour, fascinated by the reproduction of the masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance.
