This bust depicts a veiled young woman, a vestal virgin.
The first stylistic reference is a similar bust made by Antonio Canova now in the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Milan.
Canova's Vestal Virgin has the same veil "twisted" around her neck and the same thoughtful expression. It is part of a series of ideal portraits.
The quality of our marble is decidedly high, and a comparison with Canova and his imitators is not too far-fetched. Since it is impossible to approach such complex attributions, it is proposed as a work by an imitator from the early 19th century.
