Four Continents. France, 17th-18th century. Silvered bronze.
Each approx. 14 x 8 x 5 cm.
The small female busts presented here are allegories of the four continents. Dressed in exotic garments, typical of the land they embody, they form an extraordinary decorative group.
Very rare to find the complete group and of this excellent quality.
The physiognomies and the richness of the details amaze us.
Some fitting assonances with certain small busts attributed to Barthelemy Prieur (17th century), such as the allegories of France and Navarre in the Lia Collection in La Spezia, lead us to think of a French production environment.
