a ebonized wooden box with fine brass inlay; the pieces are decorated and surrounded by flowers, each likely bearing the monogram “EM,” and signed on the lock “L. Aucoc Aîné à Paris” . 12 pieces with silver parts (two pieces missing), a manicure set (some items missing), and various leather boxes containing other beauty items. The weight of the silver is approximately 400 grams. Key missing.
The Aucoc company was founded by Jean-Baptiste Casimir Aucoc in 1821. Based at 154 Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris, Casimir worked primarily as a silversmith, specializing in the production of “Nécessaire de Voyage”, toiletry and travel cases. His reputation as an excellent craftsman earned him the title of official supplier to King Charles X. In 1835, he moved the business to 4 and 6 Rue de la Paix in Paris, expanding into goldsmithing. Around 1850, Casimir was joined in the business by his son Louis, and together they won a gold medal for their beauty cases at the Great Exhibition of 1851. By 1854, Louis was at the helm of the company following Casimir’s retirement that same year.
