Bronze plaque depicting the Most Pure Mother, Naples, early 20th century

Height x width: 62 x 40 cm
it is framed in wood and signed in the lower left corner “Morelli—fond: art Laganà Napoli,” while on the right is the full signature of S. De Simonis.
The signature “Morelli” (Domenico) belongs to the creator of the “Madonna and Child” motif, while Salvatore De Simone (whose signature is sometimes misspelled as “De Simonis” on bronzes) is the artist who physically modeled the form based on the drawing, adapting it for casting.
The Laganà Artistic Foundry (also known as the Sommer-Laganà Foundry) was one of the most prestigious historic workshops in Naples. It was founded in 1890.
