French Transition-style display cabinet by Masson, 19th century
Height x width x depth: 162 x 124 x 34 cm
made of fine exotic wood veneer, with polychrome Sèvres-style porcelain plaques on the doors, and gilded, chiseled bronze fittings. It bears two brand marks stamped on the back: “Masson à Versailles.”

The Cabinetmaker Masson (19th Century) In later years (particularly during the reign of Louis-Philippe), a cabinetmaker registered under the surname Masson had his own workshop located at number 12 on Avenue de Versailles. This workshop produced and delivered fine cabinetry featuring inlays and gilded bronze (ormolu) for the royal residences at Versailles, Saint-Cloud, and the Grand Trianon.
