FEDERICO BUCCELLATI
Natural Marine Shell Mounted in Silver, Italy, 20th century
height x width: 15 x 3 cm. Weight: 40 g
Refined ornamental object composed of a natural marine shell, probably belonging to the family Turritellidae and tentatively attributable to the genus Turritella spp., entirely enclosed within a custom-made silver mount.
The silver mount faithfully follows the shell's naturally slender form, accurately reproducing its high conical spire, numerous regular whorls, and elongated anterior canal, while leaving the natural aperture visible and enhancing the elegant spiral development of the shell.
Finished with a brilliant mirror polish, the silver adheres perfectly to the shell's exterior, accentuating the regular rhythm of the whorls and the harmony of its form without altering its natural proportions. The refined contrast between the precious metal and the shell's inner cavity creates a sophisticated decorative effect, recalling the historic tradition of shells mounted in precious metal, reinterpreted through the unmistakable stylistic language of Federico Buccellati.
