Italian soilid silver tea kettle, mid-20th Century

with a complex figurative design: the jug has an elegant, slender profile with a pod-shaped lower base and a smooth central body adorned on the front with a heraldic coat of arms or cartouche surmounted by a crown; the spout is finely embossed with acanthus leaf motifs, whilst the broad, arched handle features refined fluting with finials and a safety chain; the hinged lid is topped with a pine-cone-shaped knob and embellished with a collar of leaves chiselled in relief. The most distinctive feature of the object is its lower support: the upper dome, heated by the burner, is supported by sculptures in the round depicting kneeling satyrs and fauns, which serve as supports with great sculptural and visual impact. The solid, stepped circular base is finished along the rim with a band of spindle-shaped motifs and richly engraved plant motifs.
