A bow-shaped fan (扇面, shànmiàn) painted with plum blossom branches in monochrome ink on paper. China, 20th century.
Height 42 cm; width 65 cm
The choice of monochrome ink and the bare composition are typical of the "moshu" (墨梅, mòméi) tradition, or "plum ink," a style that was made famous by the Yuan master Wang Mian (1287–1359) and taken up by countless subsequent artists.
