Allegory of Charity
Oil on canvas
cm. 93x134. Framed
The painting follows the traditional iconography of Charity as codified by Cesare Ripa in his Iconologia, depicting a woman in red surrounded by three children, one suckling at her breast. Stylistically, it belongs to the Venetian painting of the second half of the seventeenth century, combining rich colour with pronounced chiaroscuro, in a manner recalling Antonio Zanchi and Antonio Molinari.
