Candlestick, Venice 16th-17th century

Bronze, redish patina
18,5x14x14 cm

Fine historiated candlestick with circular base. On the band three different grotesque masks joined by festoons. Central baluster shaft decorated with three masks surmounted by overhanging handles in the form of harpies. On the apex the bobeche with phytomorphic decoration. 

 

The candlestick repeats all the classic decorative motifs of Venetian Renaissance bronzes. 

 

Spelndid transparent reddish patina, probably 17th century.
