This delightful sculpture derived from an invention of Barthelemy Prieur, the court sculptor of Henry IV and Marie de' Medici.
In addition to many monumental statuaries Prieur produced a series of small bronzes with a female erotic theme as well as other subjects, including this Cupid. They quite successful and were replicated by his workshop and by other unidentified foundries.
Our replica shows beautiful modeling and patina similar to old castings of his school (in redish transparent patina with traces of dark artificial patina).
