The icon depicts the twelve Great Feasts of the Orthodox liturgical calendar, i.e. the most important feasts of the year. The feasts are depicted in squares surrounding the central section, which is occupied by the most important feast, namely Easter and the Resurrection. These depictions include: the Nativity of the Virgin, the Presentation of Mary in the Temple, the Birth of Jesus, the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, the Baptism, the Entry into Jerusalem, the Transfiguration, the Dormition of Mary and the Exaltation of the Cross.
