Giacomo Cavedone
(Sassuolo, 1577 - Bologna, 1660)

Allegory of Charity

Oil on canvas
cm. 75x97,5. Framed
The painting is accompanied by an expertise by Prof. Emilio Negro.

This delicate and intense oil on canvas, depicting a tender Allegory of Charity, is attributed to Giacomo Cavedone by Emilio Negro, who dates the work to the artist's full maturity (circa 1615). The painting showcases Cavedone's celebrated stylistic synthesis, combining the Carracci tradition with Venetian colourism and Guercinesque naturalism. The use of warm tones and golden light reflects his major works, such as the Bavosi Chapel frescoes. Significantly, the canvas is plausibly identified as the CaritΓ  con tre putti previously in the Garimberti collection in Parma, before entering in the historic Farnese Collection (E. Negro, N. Roio, Giacomo Cavedone, pittore 1577 - 1660, Modena 2001, p. 186, cat. nn. 357 e 364).
