Coin cabinet, Germany, 18th century

Height x width x depth: 44 x 67 x 33 cm.
rectangular in shape, resting on a solid moulded base. It has a walnut structure and rosewood (Dalbergia spp.) veneer, enriched with complex geometric and floral inlay work using light woods such as maple and reddish woods such as rosewood and briar. The front is outlined by a flap, the outer surface of which is finely inlaid with a motif of scrolls and geometric interlacing surrounding a large central oval in burl wood. The interior is divided into two vertical rows of four drawers each, the two lower ones being larger; in the centre there is a compartment surmounted by an additional drawer. The central compartment, on the other hand, features a figurative inlay with a detailed perspective or architectural scene, protected by a central lock, whose function is to conceal the innermost and most secret compartment of the money box.
