Ostrich egg, Europe, 19th century
Height x diameter: 30 x 12.5 cm. Weight: 520 g
mounted on a square silver base, finely decorated with leaf scroll motifs and supported by four lion feet. Four modelled birds stand on the base, each carrying an oval element that supports the egg. The top of the egg is crowned with a decorative silver element, in the centre of which is set a natural hard stone. A typical example of production intended for collections and cabinets of curiosities.
