Silver reliquary cross, Central Europe, 19th century
Height x width x depth: 33 x 16.5 x 9.2 cm. Weight: 1312.8 g
and polychrome enamels. The upper cross features a circular element designed to hold a relic. The arms are decorated with polychrome enamels and embellished with small cabochon stones. The cross is supported by a complex base: two figures of winged angels, sculpted in the round with flowing drapery, hover beneath the cross, resting on a central column. The lower base features figures of peacocks, resting on a multi-lobed base with foliage decoration along the edge.
