The work belongs to mid-seventeenth-century Rome, reflecting an early Baroque sensibility in its fluid, dynamic composition, while retaining a firm grounding in Caravaggesque naturalism, with strong plasticity and vivid colour. Datable to around the mid-1640s, the painting constitutes a significant early example within Paceโs oeuvre, documenting his role in the transition from early Roman still life to the mature Baroque idiom.
