Marble bust of Julius Caesar, Rome, 1st century BC - Italy, 17th-18th centuries
Height x width x depth: 75 x 59 x 23 cm.
A fine example of 17th-18th century sculpture made from fragments of classical sculptures.
In this specific case, a beautiful marble head from the late Roman Republic (1st century BC), probably depicting Julius Caesar, was mounted by an anonymous sculptor of the 17th or 18th century on a bust made of high-quality antique yellow breccia marble.
Attached is the front and back of a photograph dated I/II/37, which certifies its origin from the furnishings of Palazzo Rigi Luperti in Cagli.
This lot is currently in storage in Piobbico (PU) with the owner.
