The subject of this intriguing bronze statuette is traditionally associated with a classical marble previously in the Valle collection in Rome, now in Florence.
Several ancient replicas are known of varying quality and with small variations.
Various ancient attributions, among which we recall that of the Paduan goldsmith Francesco da Sant'Agata.
Currently this bronze statuette is associated with the workshop of the great French sculptor Barthélemy Prieur.
We stick to this one, cataloguing it as a casting probably dating back to the 17th century.
