italian solid silver tankard, 20th century
Height x width x depth: 22 x 17 x 12 cm. Weight: 171.5 g
with a vermeil interior. The cylindrical body is embellished on the front with a rich chiselled engraving depicting a cartouche featuring plant-inspired scrollwork and rocailles motifs, enclosed within a central medallion. The structure is supported by three feet shaped like a bird of preyโs claw clutching a sphere. The hinged lid features a slightly domed top with radial fluting and a beaded rim, crowned at the centre by a cast sculpture depicting a rampant lion. The side handle features a raised thumb rest at the top to facilitate opening the lid.
