Travel triptych, 19th century
Bronze casting
Altezza x larghezza: 5.5 x 16 cm Peso: 140.2 gr.
Typical of Old Believer production between the 18th and 19th centuries, it constitutes a portable compendium of the faith and resilience of a community persecuted after the schism known as the Raskol. The devotional journey begins with the veneration of a Marian icon; at the center of the triptych shines the Anastasis, the Descent into Hell, the beating heart of Russian Easter; and finally, the cycle concludes with a complex and poetic Nativity. The entire work, despite its small size, reflects the aesthetic rigor and theological depth of the Old Believers, transforming an object of everyday use into a powerful instrument of religious identity.
