Saint Agatha Visited by Saint Peter in Prison

Oil on canvas
cm. 104x129. Framed
The painting reflects the varied influences of seventeenth-century Neapolitan painting, combining post-Caravaggesque naturalism with emerging classicist tendencies. Its attribution is tentatively proposed to Diana “Annella” De Rosa, whose artistic profile has been reassessed in recent scholarship. Comparisons may be drawn with the Annunciation in the mother church of Palo del Colle, the Saint Ursula of unknown location and the Saint Agatha in a private collection.
