Bacchus, Venice Probably 17th century

Bronze, dark brown bituminous patina
Overall 15x6,5x5 cm Bronze 13,5x6,5x4,5 cm

A small figure of Bacchus or an allegory of autumn. Crowned with grapevines, he has a goat skin knotted over the shoulder to form a pouch filled with grapes, and raises a cup with his right hand.

A valuable sculptural piece with a splendid black patina typical of Venetian productions. Exquisite rendering of the overflowing fleece of grapes and vine leaves. The specific model is not known, but it can be cautiously attributed to the late Renaissance Venetian production.
