IMAGO PIETATIS (Ecce Homo), Lombard-Venetian school, 15th-16th century

Bronze casting pax, brown patina; 133.4 x 80.4 mm; gr 207.7.

 

Half-figure Christ with nimbus, crown of thorns and rod, emerges from the tomb; behind the shroud. Frame with tympanum and two fluted columns, decorated with friezes and volutes; in the tympanum a cherub;  dotted background with IE RO SO LI MA writing. Coeval manufacture of the handle. Ancient casting.
