The auction will take place on Tuesday, December 16th starting at 15:00 p.m. CET, at Bertolami Fine Art, Piazza Lovatelli, 1 – Rome.

1. How to participate
The following methods of participation are available: in person, at the auction venue; by telephone; online, upon prior registration via our website www.bertolamifineart.com or through partner portals (see list below); by written bid.

a. Participation in person
Unacquainted customers who have not already registered must provide a valid identity document.

b. Telephone bidding
It is possible to place bids during the auction via telephone, with the assistance of one of our operators.
Clients wishing to avail themselves of this service must register by 12:00 p.m. CET on Tuesday, December 16th, specifying the lots they are interested in and providing a contact telephone number. Registered clients will be contacted shortly before the lots they have expressed interest in are offered.

Booking for telephone bidding is considered the equivalent of a written bid at the starting price indicated in the catalogue.

d. Absentee bids
It is also possible to submit bids in writing by filling out the appropriate bidding form (proxy form), or in free-text format. Absentee bids must be submitted by no later than 12:00 p.m. CET on Tuesday, December 16th and may be sent via email  (info@bertolamifineart.com), post or delivered in person to our offices at Piazza Lovatelli 1 – 00186 Rome.

An absentee bid shall authorise the auctioneer to bid on behalf of the signatory.

3. Pre-bidding
From the publication date of the online catalogue until 12:00 pm CET on Tuesday, December 16th it will be possible to:
– submit bids on www.bertolamifineart.com or the partner platforms listed in section 1 c;
– submit bids as per section 1 d.

In case of:
Single pre-auction bid on a lot
If no other bids are placed during the auction, the lot will be awarded at the starting price, even if the pre-auction bid was higher.
Example: Starting price €1,000 – Single pre-auction bid €1,500 – Hammer price €1,000

Multiple pre-auction bids of the same amount on the same lot
If no bids are raised during the auction, the lot will be awarded to the bidder who placed the earliest offer.

Multiple pre-auction bids on different platforms
If no other bids are placed during the auction, in case pre-auction bids for the same amount were placed via different platforms, the lot will be awarded to the bidder who submitted the bid via www.bertolamifineart.com, even if that bid was placed after the others.

Multiple pre-auction bids of different amounts on the same lot
If no further bids are placed during the auction, the lot will be awarded to the highest bidder, at a hammer price calculated by adding a pre-established increment (see Table A) to the second-highest bid.
Example: Bidder A offers €1,270; Bidder B offers €1,800 → Bidder B wins at €1,370 (applying €100 increment for range €1,000–1,999)

4. Payment Terms and Methods

Successful bidders may settle payment by:
- Credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express)
- PayPal
- Bank transfer to Bertolami Fine Art S.r.l. (Add €10 for non-EU bank transfers)
- Cash (within the legal limit)
- For known clients only: Non-transferable bank cheque or cashier’s cheque payable to Bertolami Fine Art S.r.l.
(Add €10 for foreign cheques)

Payment is due within 5 days of receipt of the invoice.

From the 31st day after the auction, a late payment penalty of 1% per month will be applied on the unpaid invoice amount.

Please note:
Invoices paid by cheque, cash, or bank transfer are exempt from administrative fees, which are applied to payments made by:
Credit card (+1.5%)
PayPal (+3.5%)

5. Buyer’s Premium
A buyer’s premium of 27% will be added to the hammer price.

6. Additional costs
Shipping costs, any customs duties, and expenses related to the processing of documentation required for the issuance of Free Circulation Certificates, Export Licenses or any other prior ministerial authorisation necessary for the export of the awarded lots shall be borne by the buyer.
In the event of unjustified returns, all customs and shipping expenses incurred to return the goods to Bertolami Fine Art will be charged to the client.

7. Lot description
As agent for the seller, Bertolami Fine Art S.r.l. accepts no responsibility for the provenance, descriptions, or valuations of the lots. All information provided in the catalogue or condition reports is purely indicative and reflects the opinion of our experts.

8. Issuance of the Certificate of Free Circulation or other ministerial authorisation required for the export of purchased items
The delivery of lots outside Italian borders may be subject to the regulations set forth in the Cultural Heritage Code (Legislative Decree 42/2004 and subsequent amendments) regarding the export of items of cultural interest.
If the purchased item requires a certificate or ministerial authorisation for export, the relevant request must be submitted to the Export Office for Antiquities and Art Objects of the Ministry of Culture.
The auction house does not directly handle the submission of the application but can provide informational support to the buyer and contacts for logistical partners able to assist with the procedure. The average processing times are approximately 60–90 days for a Certificate of Free Circulation (art. 68 of the Cultural Heritage Code) and 30 days for a Self-Certification.

The procedure is initiated only after full payment of the item and upon explicit authorisation from the buyer.

The auction house declines all responsibility for any delays, which are solely attributable to the competent authorities.

9. Terms and Conditions of Sale
The terms and conditions governing the relationship between Bertolami Fine Art and bidders are published in each catalogue and are deemed accepted upon participation.
In case of discrepancy between printed and online versions, the online terms prevail.

10. Publication of Auction Results
The list of successful bids will be published on www.bertolamifineart.com for information within ten days of the auction’s conclusion.

11. Collection and Delivery of Lots
Awarded lots shall be delivered upon payment of the entire purchase price. Delivery arrangements must be agreed with the Logistics Manager, Ms Alessandra Tabacco: a.tabacco@bertolamifineart.com

Collection on site
Collection is by appointment only during office hours (Monday to Friday, excluding weekends and holidays).

Please be advised that Bertolami Fine Art does not operate its own shipping service for the lots.
Nonetheless, we are able to assist purchasers by connecting them with specialised couriers, already tried and tested by the auction house with proven reliability. Purchasers may request free, no-obligation shipping quotes from these couriers. However, purchasers are entirely free to arrange shipment through any courier service of their choice.
Please note that Bertolami Fine Art cannot be held responsible for any actions, delays, or damages caused by the courier selected by the purchaser.
